They know less than nothing about Arson Investigation.

A colleague suggested I review this book because of the highly concentrated dose of misinformation it contains about fire investigation.
I have only read one chapter in this book, Chapter 16 on Arsons, Bombs, and Explosions. If the quality of the balance of the text is equal to that in chapter 16, then the book is a truly worthless investment. Less than worthless-potentially quite harmful. The authors provide a list of “burn indicators” for budding arson investigators, almost all of which have been thoroughly discredited long ago. The authors repeat myths about alligatoring, crazing, sagged furniture springs, concrete spalling, irregular patterns and the color of smoke. In fact, I am not able to think of a myth from the 80s that they left out.
Anyone who relies on this bad science is likely to wrongly accuse an innocent person of arson.
