Book #1 in the Give Me series.
Evie Jamieson, a former wild child, is not only a headstrong, smart-mouthed trouble magnet, she is also a lead singer with a plan. That plan involves uprooting her band, including her two best friends guitarist Henry and band manager Mac, to Sydney to kick off their dreams of hitting the big time.
Jared Valentine is the older brother of Evie's best friend Mac and also the man determined to make Evie his. They strike up a long distance friendship which suits Evie because she's determined to avoid the distraction of love, not only because it doesn't fit in with her plan, but because twice in the past it has left her for dead. Moving to Sydney, however, has put her directly in Jared's path and he has decided it's the perfect opportunity to make his play.
Unfortunately Jared, co-owner in a business that 'consults' in dangerous hostage and kidnapping situations, makes an enemy who's determined to enact revenge. When his enemy puts Evie in his sights, Jared not only has a fight on his hands to make her his own, but also to keep her alive.
Is accepting the love he's so desperate to give worth the risk to both her heart, and her life?

A little bit of everything....

I hate when I read a book and don't love it. Especially one that everyone else seems to be head over heels for. It makes me ask myself, is there something wrong with me? Such was the case with Give Me Love. i thought it was just okay, There were some good parts, but just not enough to make me love it. I try and remind myself that there have been books I have absolutely loved and others not so much. Which made me feel a bit better. This experience is a perfect reminder that "no two people ever read the same book".
I honestly can not pinpoint any specific thing that didn't work for me. The book was well written, especially for a first time author. I was a bit thrown a few times by the Aussie slang, but it definitely didn't make me like the book any less. If anything, it taught me some new words that i can use to drive my hubby crazy, which is always a good thing!
I think it may be that the story just dragged at times. I kept losing interest in the storyline because there were moments that nothing was really happening. And I never really connected with the characters. And that is something that is a must for me to love a story. I want to feel what they are feeling as I read. That never happened with anyone from this book and i think it was because there were just so many of them. They were all likable characters, I just felt I needed more focus on Evie and Jared.
I kept stopping and reading other books, hoping when I came back to this one something would happen to suck me into the storyline and the characters. But it never really did.You do get a bit of everything with this one, though. Suspense, romance, angst, misunderstandings, lack of communication. There is also a HEA and NO cliffhanger.
So, in closing I will say, even though this is not a book I loved, it is one I liked. I would recommend giving it a chance especially since there is not a cliffhanger. We all know how hard those are to come by nowadays!

Give me a break. Too much drama. The story was all over the place. I was overwhelmed with too much story. Not good.
By annmric
Mackenzie: pretty, tough, direct, and impatient. She has three older brothers, but Jared is the one her roommate wants. She's the band manager. She is stressed and she is fierce. Mac wants Evie to date her brother Jared. Mac is always dressing Evie for her shows and her dates.
Evie: Lead singer of a band. She is Distracted by Jared. She Does not have time for a relationship. She Has had a broken heart twice already. She Avoids Jared even though he works with her brother Coby. Her mom is dead. She feels abandoned by her parents. It's only her and Coby. She keeps running away from Jared. She keeps dating guys that she feels are safe.
Henry: lead guitarist of the band and another roommate of Evie's. Has known Evie's since childhood. He stood up for her in grade school. He gives Evie advice about her and Jared.
Jared:Mac's older brother. He co-owns a consulting company with Coby. He wants more than friendship with Evie. He is a jealous guy and does not like the attention Evie receives from all the guys. He blames himself for the danger he caused Evie from his job.
The entire story is about Evie avoiding her feelings for Jared because she does not want to get hurt a third time. It's boring and Evie is immature. The nicknames she uses are ridiculous. I'm having to skim thru most of the story because so much of it is mundane and useless.
I like the concept of two people wanting friendship, but it's ridiculous when it's obvious both want more than friendship. I feel like I'm wasting my time reading this to be led on.
Too many characters to keep track of. The banter is idiotic and petty. The concept is unrealistic. The band plot is lacking and unnecessary to the story. The story is missing the emotional angst I look for in romance stories. Not to mention she breezed through the best parts by ignoring to describe the sizzling sex scenes. Too much talking about shopping.
The story is all over the place.
What an imagination this author has. Her story telling abilities are like watching a soap opera: over the top and over dramatic. I'm not fond of this story like some of the other reviewers. She sure has a thing for food because she talks about it way too much. Not a very realistic story having us believe that every guy in the story wants to sleep with Evie. The author sure drags out the drama at keeping Evie and Jared away from each other. When will it ever end? It's too long and tedious. I'm sorry I wanted to like it but it dragged on for too long. The story might have been better if the focus had been on developing a better relationship between Jared and Evie. There was too much going on.

Rock Stars, Action and Romance!
By K. Bias
(Quote)I didn't have the time or the inclination for a man in my life for important reasons. The first of which was that I had a career in the music industry as a lead singer in a band that was going places...Besides music being my world, my heart had already been broken twice in the past, and I had no intention of revisiting that pain.
I have to say that I was a little bit overwhelmed in the first couple of chapters. I had to wrap my brain around the Aussie terminology, get a lot of characters and their nick names straight, and get used to the fast paced witty style. The characters have such a playful rapport with each other and it was fast moving so I needed time to catch up. But partway through, that all faded into the background as I fell in love with the characters and got interested in the story lines going on. And there are several story lines all wrapped up in this book. We have emerging rock stars, a "Bad Ass Brigade" of special consultants(think Commando types) and romance. I ended up staying up until almost 3 am finishing this book. I got sucked in and could not put it down!
Jared: He was a swoony, hot, charismatic alpha man who was not afraid to show his feelings and go after what he wanted. He is flirty, sweet, protective, but also a bit guarded due to trust issues. He likes his sister's room mate Evie. They have fun in texts but have not been around each other that much in person.
Evie: An emerging Rock Goddess who lives in denial so she will not get hurt again. Her past has shaped her present and she is afraid to face her own feelings. She likes Jared, but is also terrified of being near him.
Jared and Evie had a fun witty rapport, chemistry, and intense feelings. It is obvious to everyone that they are meant to be together, but Jared is afraid to push her too far and Evie is a runner. Evie's denial could get grating at times, but I still liked her overall and could understand how she came to be so untrusting. I adored Jared even though he had issues too.
"Because one day you'll belong to me, Evie, and I'll know everything about you."
"I feel like everything is so much brighter when I'm with you. When you're not there it's like someone turned out the lights."
And when I say I loved the characters, I do not just mean Jared (though sigh...swoon!) and Evie. I adored all of their crazy motley crew. Her room mate and Jared's sister Mac is feisty, controlling, bossy, outspoken, nosy, and funny. Henry, her band member and their other room mate is sweet, protective, but like a brother to them. The other band members Frog, Cooper and Jake. The "Bad Ass brigade" that includes her brother Coby and his brothers Travis and Mitch, and the super hot Casey. All of these characters lives intersect and they have such bonds of friendship and loyalty. Even though there were a lot of characters, many of them were developed enough so you can get a real feel for them and still want to know more. I can see these other characters getting their own stories in this series. The next book is supposed to be Give me Strength in December and will be his brother Travis' story.
This book has rock stars, black ops, and romance all rolled into one. There was a great love story, danger, action, and suspense. It also had angst, drama, misunderstandings, relationship fear, trust issues, separations, and reunions. There were many factors keeping these two people apart and it was hard to watch all they had to go through.
(Quote)I saw it all, the highest of our highs and the lowest of our lows, and as much as every piece was a part of me, I wanted to howl for never getting a chance to live in the middle.
"We'll have our middle, Jared, and it's going to be perfect."
I was totally invested in this couple and loved that she gave us an epilogue. I look forward to more books in this series with more of the lovable characters. I really want to see books for Casey, Mac, and Henry. Travis is next and looking forward to that. A great debut by Kate McCarthy.
